Walford, Rudyard Kipling's secretary, responds to Friedlich's request for Kipling to answer some questions. Walford notes that "the number of letters of this description which arrive, he is obliged to make a rule not to answer them." Friedlich wrote on the back of the envelope: "I asked RK whether the 'Alice Kipling' who presented "Schoolboy Lyrics' to McPlowden would have been his mother or his sister."
